ArtScience Museum & Grandpa's Birthday Dinner
But this time we went to The ArtScience Museum.
If I am not wrong, this exhibition is until 27 March which is this Sunday.
We start first with Traveling The Silk Road.
After the introduction, we proceeded to the first stop : Xi'an (the imperial capital of the Tangs)
Models of cocoons immersed in boiling water :
It is said, the fewer the filament, the finer the threads and similarly the silk.
1. Horse riding figure -an original made by a Chinese artist over 1000 years ago.
2. Rhytons - horn-shaped vessels for scooping and pouring wine.
3. Golden cup - found outside Xi'an, was typical Chinese metalwork in the 6oos.
The earliest silk weavers :
The traditional Chinese musical instruments :
The second stop : Turfan
Turfan night market :
This section of the exhibition recreates the night market in this desert city of Turfan.
World of fabric :
Pigments :
Many bright, beautiful pigments made from minerals were used in both paints and cosmetics across the ancient world.
In Tang China, the colours of blue, red, yellow, black, green were preferred.
Fruits :
Exotic luxury :
Merchants brought expensive skins, feathers and gems from afar to the marketplaces where eager buyers awaited.
Karez water system :
The third stop : Samarkand
On the left is a figure of a camel driver and on the right is the camel.
The camel bell :
Clanging camel bells signaled that it was time for travelers to load up their bags and prepare to depart.
The ancient craft of paper making in Samarkand :
The fourth stop : Baghdad
The craft of glassblowing :
Working astrolabe :
Astronomers could tell the time by studying stars, using this model of heavens.
Lastly, we have reached the end of The Silk Road.
Our journey to the four cities is completed!

A board game of conquering the Indian Ocean Trade Route :
A fragment of a packing jar with 26 bowls :
Changsha wares :
Even in the ninth century, some Chinese kilns were organised to produce ceramics on an industrial scale.
The Gold cup :
Guess what?
This cup was known as the most important Tang gold object ever found outside China!
It is unusually large and heavy, and the cost of its material alone would have equalled ten years' salary for a low-ranking Chinese official. o.O
Green-splashed ewer :
This magnificent ewer which stands over a metre tall.
Ewer with lugs and freely modeled dragon-head spout and feline - shaped handle :
The feline caught my attention! It's so cute.
To the last station!
Genghis Khan : The Exhibition
Mongolian musical and dance performances for around 1 hour :
I only recorded their first song and the dance.
The girl is so pretty! Too bad I did not captured her face. =D
Mongolian mummy :
Unlike the embalmed mummies in ancient Egypt, this body was preserved naturally.
And her coffin :
Flint and fire starter :
Mongolian straight sword :
Mongolian warriors :
The man and woman's robe :
Jamsran Tsam Mask :
It is a protective warrior god who wards off the powers of evil with eyes watching the past, present and future.
The Mongols were nomads on the grasslands of Central Asia.
A model of a ger structure :
I think that's the price of the ger.
Ten thousand dollars for a kid ger?
The souvenir shop :
Some of the mongolian handmade dolls!
He said since we are here, let's buy one as a souvenir.
And in the end, we chose a pair which cost $95.
Well, that's not end of the day yet.
The time passed so fast that I almost missed my grandfather's birthday dinner!
On the way out to take cab, we passed by this beautiful sunset :
Luckily I made it on time! Thanks! =D
Kok Seng didn't join as he had some family matters.
Anyway, dinner started at 7.30pm.
Due to my grandparents not being able to take seafood,
so we suggested vegetarian dishes.
We ordered a total of 8 dishes which I only took some of.
After the dinner we went separate ways with the adults.
Ended the day with KOI at Clementi with James, Wy, Ming and brother.
And a stroll at Clementi Mall.
